Celebrating over 40 years of fine arts in the community

Valerie Fenelon was born in 1952 and raised in Clifton, New Jersey. She attended the

Moore School of Art in Philadelphia, majoring in photography.

Having spent summers on Long Beach Island in her childhood, she relocated to the area for good in 2001.

Now a twenty-plus year resident of Barnegat, Valerie is a prolific photographer with much of her work focused on he beauty of the beach next door. She also creates mixed media sculptures from found objects and has now transitioned into painting with acrylics on canvas, wood and paper. Valerie is the former owner of The North End Trilogy, where she mentored, promoted and curated shows for local artists.

In 2022, a stroke left Valerie paralyzed on her dominant side. She began to paint with her left hand. Through personal tragedy, the artist has persevered. She expresses to us not only her vision; we also see clearly the incredible ability of the mind to transform and heal.

Jim McShea has been a practicing artist for 40 years. He received a bachelor’s degree in painting from Tyler School of Art at Temple University and holds a master’s degree in painting from the Yale University School of Art.

His past exhibitions include solo shows at the Alpha Gallery in Boston and George Billis Galleries in Connecticut and New York City. He was also one of the artists in The North End Trilogy Gallery in Barnegat Light, beginning his long time friendship with Valerie Fenelon, which was the inspiration for this show.

An active member of Pine Shores Art Association, Jim heads up the bi-monthly portrait drawing sessions at PSAA’s Tuckerton Art Center and leads the monthly Art Chats at Barnegat Library.
